Compare KPM Berlin's LAB Starter-Set and URANIA 18-piece breakfast set: size, design, and price trade-offs to find your perfect porcelain breakfast set.
Quick answer
Choose the LAB Starter-Set if you're setting up a breakfast set for two with modern, minimalist design; choose the URANIA 18-piece set if you regularly host family breakfasts and need more pieces.
Size and serving capacity
The LAB Starter-Set is a 6-piece set designed for a small household of two people, including two plates, two small bowls, and two mugs. The URANIA 18-piece set includes six dessert plates, six coffee cups, and six saucers, making it suitable for larger gatherings or family breakfasts.
If you often have guests or a larger family, the URANIA set's extra pieces mean you won't need to mix and match other dinnerware. For a couple, the LAB set provides exactly what you need without excess.
Design philosophy: modern vs classic
The LAB collection showcases how traditional craftsmanship meets forward-thinking design, resulting in iconic, contemporary pieces. In contrast, URANIA is a reduced counterpart to ARKADIA, emphasizing clarity of form according to the New Objectivity movement, offering a more classic and streamlined aesthetic.
Consider which style better matches your existing tableware and home decor. LAB's modern look suits minimalist interiors, while URANIA's clean lines fit traditional or transitional settings.
Price and value trade-off
The LAB Starter-Set is priced at USD 270.64 (compared to USD 398.00), making it a more accessible entry point. The URANIA 18-piece set costs USD 816.00 (compared to USD 1200.00), reflecting its larger size and higher piece count.
While URANIA costs more, its per-piece price is lower, offering better value if you need many pieces. LAB is more budget-friendly upfront but provides fewer items.
Trade-offs to consider
- Size vs. storage: The LAB set's 6 pieces are compact and easy to store, while URANIA's 18 pieces require more cabinet space. Measure your storage space before deciding.
- Design: modern vs. classic: LAB offers contemporary design; URANIA provides a classic, clear aesthetic. Choose based on your existing decor. Check if the design complements your current tableware.
- Price vs. per-piece value: LAB is cheaper upfront, but URANIA offers a lower cost per piece. If you need many items, URANIA may be more economical in the long run. Calculate cost per piece to assess true value.
